What authentication/authorization methods are available?

Question:

What authentication/authorization methods are available?

Answer:

TheGRID has 3 methods for device/user authentication. Each has its own merits/demerits.

1.     TheGRID Basic - GRID tags/registers/remembers each browser by planting a persistent cookie on the browser. This method can be used on virtually any web browser on any platforms including browsers on smartphones and tablets. It's also easier and inexpensive to deploy. The downside is that cookies can sometimes be cleared by the user or ineffective in "private browsing mode" where all data is wiped after each browsing session.

2.     TheGRID Advanced - This is an optional browser toolbar add-on to enhance the basic function and provides mutual authentication where the browser is capable to automatically recognize a genuine site vs a phishing site. Deployment is trickier as only a few browser platforms are supported. (selected versions of IE and Firefox on Windows operating system)

3.     TheGRID Beacon - This is the evolved version of GRID which leverages on smartphones. With the Beacon mobile app installed on either Apple iOS or Google Android, a user's smartphone is effectively turned into a personal remote access control device (or a smart hardware token device). Security is stronger, the smartphone is always with the user and it's very easy to use.
